अर्जुनदुःखहेतुप्रश्नः — Inquiry into the cause of Arjuna’s recurring hardship
Book 14, Chapter 89
svam aṁśaṁ bhagavān vyāsaḥ kuntyai sākṣād dhi mānataḥ | pradadau tasya mahato hiraṇyasya mahādyutiḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: The illustrious sage Vyāsa, having received his own rightful share of that great heap of gold, personally presented it to Kuntī with due honor. The act underscores a dharmic ideal: wealth gained by rightful allotment is best sanctified through respectful giving, especially toward those who have borne suffering and upheld duty.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Rightfully obtained wealth attains higher value when offered with reverence to a deserving recipient; dharma is expressed not only in acquiring justly but also in giving honorably and compassionately.
During the Ashvamedhika Parva context of post-war rites and distributions, Vyāsa receives a share of a large quantity of gold and then personally presents his portion to Kuntī as a respectful gift.
