Ulūpī’s Disclosure and the Saṃjīvana-Maṇi: Arjuna’s Restoration

arjuna uvāca — nareśvara! āgāmī caitramāsakī pūrṇimāyāṃ mahārāja yudhiṣṭhirasya yajñasya ārambho bhaviṣyati; tasmin tvaṃ svābhyāṃ etābhyāṃ mātṛbhyāṃ mantribhiś ca sārdham avaśyam āgaccha. ityevam uktaḥ pārthena sa rājā babhruvāhanaḥ; uvāca pitaram dhīmān idam aśrāvilocanaḥ.

Arjuna said: “O king, on the coming full-moon day of the month of Caitra, King Yudhiṣṭhira’s sacrifice will begin. You must certainly come there, together with these two mothers of yours and with your ministers.” Thus addressed by Pārtha, the wise king Babhruvāhana—his eyes filled with tears—spoke these words to his father.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharma in the form of royal and familial responsibility: participation in a righteous public rite (yajña) is not merely ceremonial but a reaffirmation of alliance, gratitude, and social order; it also models respectful communication—inviting even those recently in tension into a shared dharmic act.

Arjuna informs King Babhruvāhana that Yudhiṣṭhira’s sacrifice will commence on the upcoming Caitra full moon and instructs him to attend with his two mothers and ministers. After hearing this, Babhruvāhana—moved to tears—turns to speak to his father, Arjuna.
