Aśvamedha-dīkṣā, Vyāsa’s horse-release, and Arjuna’s departure with Gāṇḍīva
Yudhiṣṭhira uvāca: ākhyātavyaś ca bhavatā yajño ’yaṃ mama sarvaśaḥ | pārthivebhyo mahābāho samaye gamyatām iti ||
Yudhiṣṭhira said: “Mighty-armed one, you must fully announce this sacrifice of mine to all the kings, and tell them: ‘Come to the sacrifice at the appointed time.’” In the ethical frame of the Aśvamedha, the command underscores royal duty: a public rite must be conducted transparently, with due notice and proper invitation, so that allied and subordinate rulers may participate in an orderly, dharma-governed manner.
