पाण्डव-वृष्णि-समागमः तथा अश्वमेध-अनुज्ञा | Reunion at the Kuru Court and Authorization of the Aśvamedha
परिक्षिदिति नामास्य भवत्तित्यब्रवीत् तदा । “कुरुकुलके परिक्षीण हो जानेपर यह अभिमन्युका बालक उत्पन्न हुआ है। इसलिये इसका नाम परिक्षित् होना चाहिये।” ऐसा भगवानने कहा
parīkṣid iti nāmāsya bhavatt ity abravīt tadā |
Vaiśampāyana said: At that time the Lord declared, “Let his name be Parīkṣit.” Since, when the Kuru lineage had been brought to the brink of extinction, this child of Abhimanyu has been born, he should bear the name Parīkṣit—one who preserves and restores the line. The naming underscores the ethical hope of renewal after devastation and the duty to safeguard dharma through rightful succession.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even after catastrophic loss, dharma is sustained through responsible continuity—protecting rightful succession and nurturing the next generation so that social and moral order can be restored.
Vaiśampāyana reports that the Lord proclaims the newborn child of Abhimanyu should be named Parīkṣit, emphasizing that he is born when the Kuru line is nearly extinguished and will serve as its renewal.
