Subhadrā’s Petition to Kṛṣṇa for the Revival of Parīkṣit
Vaiśampāyana uvāca: Abhimanyor bhadraṁ te priyasya sadṛśasya ca | priyam utpādayādya tvaṁ pretasyāpi Janārdana ||
Vaiśampāyana said: “May auspiciousness be yours, Janārdana. Abhimanyu—now departed to the other world—was exceedingly dear to you and like you in excellence. Today, bring about what is dear even for him: restore his child to life.”
The verse frames compassion and responsibility as dharmic duties: even the dead are honored through care for their descendants, and divine power is invoked not for conquest but to heal loss and protect lineage.
Vaiśampāyana reports an appeal to Kṛṣṇa (Janārdana): since Abhimanyu was dearly loved and akin to him in virtue, Kṛṣṇa is asked to grant Abhimanyu’s posthumous wish by reviving his child.
