Educational Q&A

The verse frames moral repair as possible through authoritative absolution and conscious ethical reassurance: when a disputed act (here, a marriage) burdens the mind with guilt, a dharmic authority can declare release from adharma, remove pāpa, and restore inner steadiness—so that one proceeds without corrosive remorse.

Śukra speaks to a person troubled by the ethical implications of a marriage. He declares that he is freeing the person from adharma, invites them to ask for a desired boon, and explicitly instructs them not to feel dejection or guilt about the marriage because he will remove the sin associated with it.
