Duṣyanta said: “Even in the Vedas, the twice-born recite this very cluster of mantras at the time of the birth-rite (jātakarma) for sons. You too know it well.”
दुष्यन्त उवाच
The verse underscores the authority of Vedic tradition in validating social and familial rites: the jātakarma saṁskāra is grounded in Vedic mantra-recitation by the dvijas, and knowledge of these mantras signals adherence to dharma and recognized lineage-practice.
Duṣyanta points to a well-known Vedic mantra-set recited during the jātakarma ceremony for sons, indicating that the addressee is familiar with it too—invoking shared ritual knowledge to support his point within the ongoing discussion.
