Garuḍa’s Breach of the Amṛta-Guard and Boons with Viṣṇu; Encounter with Indra (Ādi-parva, Adhyāya 29)

Sautir uvāca: ity uktvā garuḍaṃ so ’tha māṅgalyam akarot tadā | yudhyataḥ saha devais te yuddhe bhavatu maṅgalam ||
Ugraśravas (Sauti) said: Having spoken thus to Garuḍa, Kaśyapa then performed an auspicious benediction for him. He said, “Garuḍa, as you fight in battle together with the gods, may there be well-being and good fortune for you in that war.” The moment frames a fatherly blessing that seeks righteous success and protection amid impending conflict.
कश्यप उवाच
Even when conflict is unavoidable, one should seek and confer ‘maṅgala’—rightful welfare, protection, and auspiciousness—so that action aligns with dharma rather than mere aggression.
Sauti recounts that Kaśyapa, after speaking to Garuḍa, offers him a formal benediction: as Garuḍa goes to fight in a war involving the gods, Kaśyapa prays for his well-being and success.
