Mandapāla said: “For the sake of your deliverance from danger, I petitioned Jvalana (Agni). And the great-souled Agni, saying ‘So be it,’ gave his pledge accordingly.”
मन्दपाल उवाच
A righteous appeal made for others’ safety, when met by a divine pledge, highlights the ethical weight of vows (pratijñā) and the duty to seek protection for dependents; a ‘mahātman’ is characterized by keeping such assurances.
Mandapāla explains that he approached Agni (called Jvalana) with a request aimed at securing the others’ deliverance from harm, and that Agni consented and formally promised to do so.
