Karna’s Counsel on Strategy toward the Pāṇḍavas
Vaiśampāyana uvāca: gṛhṇātu vidhivat pāṇim adyāyaṃ kurunandanaḥ | puṇye 'hani mahābāhur arjunaḥ kurutāṃ kṣaṇam ||
Vaiśampāyana said: “Let the delight of the Kuru line take her hand today in the proper rite. On this auspicious day, let the mighty-armed Arjuna perform, without delay, the customary auspicious ceremonies befitting his lineage.”
The verse emphasizes kula-dharma and ritual correctness: major life-transitions like marriage should be performed vidhivat (according to rule) and on a puṇya day, reflecting ethical order, social responsibility, and respect for tradition.
The narrator Vaiśampāyana reports an instruction/announcement that Arjuna, praised as the Kuru line’s delight and as mighty-armed, should formally take the bride’s hand (pāṇigrahaṇa) that very day and begin the customary auspicious rites without delay.
