Uccaiḥśravas Color-Wager and the Nāga Curse
कौस्तुभस्तु मणिर्दिव्य उत्पन्नो घृत्सम्भव: । मरीचिविकच: श्रीमान् नारायण उरोगत:,फिर अनन्त किरणोंसे समुज्ज्वल दिव्य कौस्तुभभणिका उस जललसे प्रादुर्भाव हुआ, जो भगवान् नारायणके वक्ष:स्थलपर सुशोभित हुई
śaunaka uvāca |
kaustubhas tu maṇir divya utpanno ghṛta-sambhavaḥ |
marīci-vikacaḥ śrīmān nārāyaṇa uro-gataḥ ||
Śaunaka said: “Then the divine jewel Kaustubha arose—born from the churning’s rich essence—radiant with spreading rays and splendid in beauty. It came to rest upon Nārāyaṇa’s chest, where it shone as an emblem of His sovereignty and auspiciousness.”
शौनक उवाच
The verse highlights how the finest, most auspicious outcomes of cosmic effort ultimately belong with the Divine; Kaustubha on Nārāyaṇa’s chest symbolizes rightful sovereignty, purity, and the alignment of splendor with dharma.
