Shloka 25

उच्चैःश्रवसः वर्णविपणः तथा नागशापः

Uccaiḥśravas Color-Wager and the Nāga Curse

तमग्निममरश्रेष्ठ: प्रदहन्तमितस्तत: । वारिणा मेघजेनेन्द्र:ः शमयामास सर्वश:,तब देवराज इन्द्रने इधर-उधर सबको जलाती हुई उस आगको मेघोंके द्वारा जल बरसाकर सब ओरसे बुझा दिया

tam agnim amaraśreṣṭhaḥ pradahantam itas tataḥ | vāriṇā meghajenendraḥ śamayāmāsa sarvaśaḥ ||

Śaunaka said: Then Indra, the foremost among the immortals, seeing that fire blazing and consuming everything in all directions, caused rain to fall from cloud-born waters and extinguished it completely on every side. The episode underscores the ethical ideal that unchecked destruction must be restrained by rightful power used for protection and the restoration of balance.
