Dhṛṣṭadyumna’s Enumeration of Assembled Kṣatriyas
सौदासो<हं महाभाग याज्यस्ते मुनिसत्तम । अस्मिन् काले यदि ते ब्रूहि किं करवाणि ते,“महाभाग मुनिश्रेष्ठ! मैं आपका यजमान सौदास हूँ। इस समय आपकी जो अभिलाषा हो, कहिये--मैं आपकी क्या सेवा करूँ?”
saudāso ’haṃ mahābhāga yājyas te munisattama | asmin kāle yadi te brūhi kiṃ karavāṇi te ||
The Gandharva said: “O fortunate one, O best of sages, I am Saudāsa, your patron for the sacrifice. Tell me now, at this moment, what you desire—what service shall I render to you?”
गन्धर्व उवाच
The verse highlights dharmic conduct through humility and readiness to serve: a powerful figure identifies himself as a sacrificer/patron and respectfully asks a sage what service is desired, emphasizing deference to spiritual authority and proper ritual etiquette.
A Gandharva speaks, introducing himself as Saudāsa and addressing a great sage as his officiant/recipient in a sacrificial context. He asks what the sage wishes at that moment, offering to fulfill the request as an act of service.
