Kuntī–Yudhiṣṭhira Dialogue on Bhīma’s Mission

evaṁ gate mayā śakyaṁ yad yat kārayituṁ hitam | pāṇḍavānāṁ ca kuntyāś ca tat sarvaṁ kriyatāṁ dhanaiḥ ||

Vaiśampāyana said: “Since matters have come to this pass, whatever beneficial action for the Pāṇḍavas and for Kuntī can be carried out by me—whatever is within my power—let all of it be accomplished, even by spending wealth.” Having spoken thus, Dhṛtarāṣṭra, the son of Ambikā, surrounded by his kinsmen, performed the rite of offering water (jalāñjali) for the Pāṇḍavas.

Educational Q&A

Even amid irreversible outcomes, a ruler or elder must still pursue the welfare (hita) of dependents and kin, using lawful means—including wealth—to repair harm, fulfill obligations, and uphold dharma through appropriate rites and support.

Dhṛtarāṣṭra declares that whatever beneficial measures he can undertake for the Pāṇḍavas and Kuntī should be carried out at his expense, and then he performs the ritual water-offering (jalāñjali) for the Pāṇḍavas while surrounded by his relatives.
