Vāraṇāvata-prasaṃsā and the Pāṇḍavas’ Departure

Vaiśampāyana said: Bhīṣma, the foremost among weapon-bearers, questioned Droṇa with discerning intelligence about the reason for his arrival. Droṇa then disclosed to him the entire cause. The episode frames Bhīṣma’s responsible guardianship: he seeks a worthy teacher for the princes and, before acting, elicits the truth directly and respectfully—an ethical model of prudent inquiry and transparent counsel.

Educational Q&A

Leaders should act with discernment: before making consequential decisions (such as appointing a teacher for heirs), they should inquire carefully into motives and circumstances, and expect full, truthful disclosure. Prudent questioning and transparent explanation support dharma in governance and education.

Bhīṣma, having brought Droṇa into the Kuru household, asks him—skillfully and in detail—why he has come. Droṇa then explains the complete reason for his arrival, setting up the subsequent decision about instructing the princes in arms and learning.
