Janamejaya said: “All those great-souled men were possessed of the prowess of the king of the gods (Indra). Indeed, you yourself, while recounting the descent of divine portions into the world, declared them to be shares of the gods.”

The verse underscores the epic idea that extraordinary virtue and power in certain heroes is grounded in a divine source: the Pāṇḍavas’ excellence is framed as arising from the gods’ portions, linking moral authority and heroic capacity to cosmic order.
Janamejaya recalls what the narrator previously stated about the ‘descent of portions’ (aṃśāvataraṇa): that the Pāṇḍavas were born with divine shares, and he emphasizes their Indra-like prowess to connect their deeds to their celestial origin.
