दक्षस्य दुहिता या तु सुरभीत्यभिशब्दिता | गां प्रजाता तु सा देवी कश्यपाद् भरतर्षभ,महाराज! दक्ष प्रजापतिकी पुत्रीने, जो देवी सुरभि नामसे विख्यात है, कश्यपजीके सहवाससे एक गौको जन्म दिया
dakṣasya duhitā yā tu surabhīty abhiśabditā | gāṁ prajātā tu sā devī kaśyapād bharatarṣabha ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Dakṣa’s daughter, renowned by the name Surabhī, bore a cow through her union with Kaśyapa, O bull among the Bharatas. The narration situates Surabhī within the sacred genealogy of beings, presenting procreation as an ordered, dharmic process that sustains the world through established lineages.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores dharmic order through lineage: creation and continuity occur through recognized genealogies, portraying the world as sustained by lawful, interconnected origins rather than randomness.
Vaiśampāyana identifies Surabhī as Dakṣa’s daughter and states that she bore a cow through Kaśyapa, contributing to the broader genealogical account of beings in the Ādi Parva.
