Sukta 5
यो वै संयन्तं नामर्तुं वेद । संयतींसंयतीमेवाप्रियस्य भ्रातृव्यस्य श्रियमा दत्ते । एष वै संयन्नामर्तुर्यदजः पञ्चौदनः । निरेवाप्रियस्य भ्रातृव्यस्य श्रियं दहति भवत्यात्मना। यो३जं पञ्चौदनं दक्षिणाज्योतिषं ददाति
yó vái saṃyántaṃ nā́ma ṛtúṃ véda | saṃyatī́ṃ saṃyatīm evā́priyasya bhrā́tṛvyasya śríyam ā́ datte | eṣá vái saṃyán nā́ma ṛtúr yád ajáḥ pañcáudanáḥ | nír evā́priyasya bhrā́tṛvyasya śríyaṃ dahati bhávāty ātmánā | yó ’jáṃ pañcáudanáṃ dákṣiṇā-jyótiṣaṃ dádāti
Whoso, in sooth, knoweth by name the season called Saṃyant, he draweth unto himself—yea, the very Saṃyatī— the splendour of the unfriendly rival. This, verily, is the season Saṃyant, to wit, the goat with the fivefold rice-porridge. He burneth clean away the rival’s splendour and maketh it his own, even he who bestoweth the goat and the fivefold porridge, made luminous by the priestly fee.
