Sukta 31

Mantra 1

सेनानिरीक्षणम्। त्वया मन्यो सरथमारुजन्तो हर्षमाणा हृषितासो मरुत्वन्। तिग्मेषव आयुधा संशिशाना उप प्र यन्तु नरो अग्निरूपाः

With thee, O Manyu, mounting their chariots, exulting, thrilled, O Marut-like, keen-arrowed, whetting their weapons—let the men, in Agni’s form, advance nigh and forth.

Mantra 2

अग्निरिव मन्यो त्विषितः सहस्व सेनानीर्नः सहुरे हूत एधि । हत्वाय शत्रून् वि भजस्व वेद ओजो मिमानो वि मृधो नुदस्व

Like Agni, O Manyu, aflame, be strong: as our commander, invoked, wax thou for conquest. For slaying the foes, divide them asunder—thou knowest—meting out might; drive off the hostile press.

Mantra 3

सहस्व मन्यो अभिमातिमस्मै रुजन् मृणन् प्रमृणन् प्रेहि शत्रून्। उग्रं ते पाजो नन्वा रुरुध्रे वशी वशं नयासा एकज त्वम्

Prevail, O Manyu, against his hostile purpose—breaking, crushing, crushing utterly—go forth upon the foes. Fierce is thy might: verily thou hast hemmed them in; masterful, thou leadest them into subjection—thou alone indeed.

Mantra 4

एको बहूनामसि मन्य ईडिता विशंविशं युद्धाय सं शिशाधि । अकृत्तरुक् त्वया युजा वयं द्युमन्तं घोषं विजयाय कृण्मसि

Thou art the One of many, O Manyu, praised: set thou each clan in order for the battle. With thee as yoked ally, O unbroken-splendoured, we make for victory a radiant shout of triumph.

Mantra 5

विजेषकृदिन्द्र इवानवब्रवो३ऽस्माकं मन्यो अधिपा भवेह। प्रियं ते नाम सहुरे गृणीमसि विद्मा तमुत्सं यत आबभूथ

Victory-working, like Indra, unrebukable, be thou here our over-lord, O Manyu. Thy dear Name, O overpowering One, we hymn; we know that well-spring whence thou hast arisen.

Mantra 6

आभूत्या सहजा वज्र सायक सहो बिभर्षि सहभूत उत्तरम्। क्रत्वा नो मन्यो सह मेद्येऽधि महाधनस्य पुरुहूत संसृजि

With waxing power, innate, O bolt-weaponed, thou bearest might, conjoined, the upper hand. By purpose, O Manyu, in alliance with us, in strength, over great spoil—O much-invoked—do thou unite (our powers).

Mantra 7

संसृष्टं धनमुभयं समाकृतमस्मभ्यं धत्तां वरुणश्च मन्युः । भियो दधाना हॄदयेषु शत्रवः पराजितासो अप नि लयन्ताम्

Let Varuṇa and Manyu bestow on us wealth well-compacted, bothfold, wholly made complete. Let the foes, bearing fears within their hearts, defeated, withdraw—away, down—let them hide themselves.
