Mantras

Mantra 1

Since, O Nāsatyās, ye are swift, and since, O god, ye deal as healers—This your calf by thoughts alone findeth you not; for ye go unto him that hath oblation.

Mantra 2

Now, verily, let the seer take knowledge of the Aśvins’ laud; by this means (let it be) for you twain. Hither—Soma, most honeyed—let him pour the gharmá, in the Atharvan’s rite.

Mantra 3

Now, O Aśvins, mount the swift-revolving car. Hither to you have these my praises rolled on, like a cloud (that swells and drives).

Mantra 4

What, O Nāsatyas, we have to-day set in motion toward you with hymns—or what with voices, O Aśvins—thereof take heed, even as (ye heeded) Kaṇva’s.

Mantra 5

What Kakṣīvān (did) for you, and what the seer Vyaśva; what Dīrghatamas invoked you with; what Pṛthī—what Vainya (did) for you in the sittings: even so, O Aśvins, from hence take heed.

Frequently Asked Questions

To bring the Aśvins quickly as divine physicians and secure healing/rescue, stressing that offering (havis) and voiced praise are what draw them.

It teaches a ritual principle: good intentions are not enough; the gods are portrayed as responding to the concrete act of oblation and the spoken stoma.

They are remembered exemplars—seers and patrons whose successful invocations serve as precedent, strengthening the present request and compelling Aśvinic attention.
