bṛhádénam ánu vaste purástād rathantarám práti gṛhṇāti paścā́t | jyótir vásānaḥ sádám apramā́daṃ tásya devásya | kruddhásyaitád ā́go yá eváṃ vidvā́ṃsaṃ brāhmaṇáṃ jinā́ti | úd vepaya rohita prá kṣiṇīhi brahmajyásya práti muñca pāśā́n
With Bṛhat he invests him; in front, Rathantara he takes to meet him from behind. Clothed in light, ever vigilant, (is) that god’s power. This is the offence against that god when wrathful—whoso thus overmasters a knowing Brahmin. Up, make him tremble, O Rohita; waste him away: against the brahma-slayer loose forth the nooses.
Rishi: Traditionally Atharvanic/Angirasa milieu (hymn to Rohita/solar power; precise r̥ṣi attribution varies by anukramaṇī tradition).
Devata: Rohita (solar ‘Red One’), with functional overlap with Varuṇic ‘noose’ power and Sāman potency (Bṛhat/Rathantara).
Chandas: Mixed/prose-like triṣṭubh-jagatī tendencies with refrain; Atharvanic cadence (edition-dependent).
