A Sūtra-like Manual of Expiations for Ritual Transgressions

It demonstrates a narrative technique where the narrator/instructor withdraws after issuing a boon, while the affected figure remains in a liminal space—typical of Purāṇic moral-ritual storytelling.
The śmaśāna (cremation-ground) is identified as the setting, but not with a specific place-name in this excerpt.
It underscores the persistence of consequence: even after receiving instruction or boon, one may remain bound to a process of expiation until purification is completed.
