पुराऽसीत्पार्थिवोनाम इंद्रसेनो महीपतिः । तस्याऽसीत्सुप्रिया भार्या सुनन्दानाम भामिनी । पतिव्रता पतिप्राणा सदा पत्युः प्रिये स्थिता

Pada zaman dahulu ada seorang raja bernama Indrasena, penguasa negeri. Istrinya yang amat dicintai ialah wanita bernama Sunandā—seorang pativratā, yang menjadikan suaminya sebagai nyawa, dan senantiasa teguh pada apa yang menyenangkan hati sang suami.
