Scene: A stark enumeration of grave sinners is contrasted with the cleansing power of hymn-repetition; the scene can show shadowed figures (sinners) turning toward a radiant Śiva-liṅga as the stotra sound purifies them.
Śiva-devotion, expressed as stotra-japa, is presented as a powerful means of purification even from grave transgressions.
The passage belongs to the Kāśī Khaṇḍa narrative stream, preparing for the Vyāseśvara and Kāśī merit theology.
Japa (repetitive chanting) of the stuti is stated as the means for pāpa-śuddhi (removal of sin).
