kathaṃ mlecchasamākīrṇo deśo'yaṃ dvijasattama | etadācakṣva māṃ brahmanmārkaṇḍeya mahāmate
Wahai yang terbaik di antara para dwija, bagaimana negeri ini dipenuhi oleh mleccha? Terangkanlah kepadaku hal ini, wahai brāhmaṇa yang mulia, wahai Mārkaṇḍeya yang berhikmah agung.
