Inquiry into Pāśupata Knowledge
Paśu–Pāśa–Paśupati
Suta Goswami (narrating to the sages at Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
It highlights that divine reality cannot be grasped by pride or mere authority; when Indra reacts from irritation and self-importance, the mysterious Yakṣa withdraws—pointing to the Shaiva Siddhanta theme that grace (anugraha) is not compelled by ego.
The Yakṣa functions like a veiled revelation: the Supreme (often understood as Shiva) may appear in an indirect form and remain inaccessible until approached with reverence. Linga-worship similarly trains the devotee to seek the Lord beyond outward appearances, through devotion and right attitude.
A practical takeaway is humility before Shiva in daily worship—beginning japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and offering bhasma/Tripuṇḍra with a calm mind, replacing anger with devotion so that insight is not “hidden” by inner agitation.
