Vyāsotpatti-kathana
Account of the Birth/Origin of Vyāsa
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
The verse highlights that mere fear of a yogin’s power (śāpa) can silence society, yet fear is not the same as dharma; Shaiva teaching emphasizes inner purification and right action guided by Shiva-centered discernment, not intimidation.
In Linga/Saguna Shiva worship, power (śakti) is meant to be sanctified through devotion and discipline; this verse contrasts worldly fear of ascetic power with the higher Shaiva ideal of surrender to Shiva, where authority is grounded in righteousness and grace, not threat.
A practical takeaway is to stabilize conduct through japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and regular Shiva-puja with bhasma/rudraksha as supports for self-restraint—so actions are governed by dharma rather than fear of others.
