Pitṛ-sarga and the Greatness of Śrāddha: The Inquiry
Bhishma
Tattva Level: pashu
It emphasizes authentic transmission (śruti-smṛti style) of Shaiva wisdom—Bhīṣma narrates only what he faithfully received, honoring lineage and preserving the integrity of teachings about Pati (Śiva) and liberation.
Though this line is introductory, it frames the coming instruction as a received Shaiva teaching. In the Shiva Purana, such lineage-based narration commonly leads into practical devotion to Saguna Śiva (often through Liṅga worship) grounded in reliable tradition.
No specific rite is prescribed in this verse; the takeaway is to approach Shiva practices—japa of the Pañcākṣarī, Tripuṇḍra, Rudrākṣa, and Liṅga-pūjā—through proper instruction and faithful recitation as handed down in the tradition.
