Description of the Power/Effects of Śiva’s Māyā
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
The verse teaches that Shiva, as Pati (the Supreme Lord), fulfills every essential role for the soul—protector, guide, and nurturer—implying that complete reliance (śaraṇāgati) in Shiva is the direct support for liberation.
By describing Shiva as the intimate protector and benefactor, the verse supports Saguna devotion: worship of the Shiva-Linga as the accessible form through which the formless Lord grants guidance, grace, and inner welfare.
A practical takeaway is daily Shiva-bhakti with japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) while contemplating Shiva as one’s inner Guru and protector; this can be paired with simple Linga worship (water/abhisheka) as an act of surrender.
