Jalandhara’s Māyā in the Battle with Śiva
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Rudra
Role: destructive
It shows how uncontrolled raudra-śakti (fierce divine power) can overwhelm the manifest world; in Shaiva Siddhanta, only Pati (Shiva) ultimately governs and restores order, turning disturbance into a means for re-establishing dharma.
The verse highlights Shiva’s saguna aspect as Rudra—tangible, powerful, and world-affecting. Linga worship is a stabilizing, dharmic way to approach that same supreme reality, seeking protection and re-harmonization of the cosmos and the devotee’s inner world.
To pacify raudra-bhāva, one may do Panchākṣarī japa ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya"), apply Tripuṇḍra bhasma with remembrance of Shiva, and offer water to the Śiva-liṅga with a prayer for inner steadiness and cosmic well-being.
