Seorang perempuan yang berpikiran sesat, meninggalkan suaminya lalu berkelana diam-diam, terlahir kembali sebagai burung hantu betina yang kejam, tinggal di lubang-lubang pohon.
Suta Goswami (narrating the Shiva Purana to the sages at Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: teaching
It teaches the Shaiva view of karma and dharma: secretive, harmful conduct that violates sacred duties produces degrading rebirth and suffering, urging purity, truthfulness, and restraint as supports for spiritual progress toward Shiva.
Linga-worship in the Shiva Purana is grounded in inner and outer purity (ācāra). This verse underscores that devotion to Saguna Shiva bears fruit when aligned with dharma; unethical secrecy and betrayal obstruct the devotee’s path and merit.
Adopt daily Shaiva discipline: repeat the Panchakshara mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” maintain truthfulness and self-control, and perform simple purification (e.g., Tripuṇḍra with bhasma) as a reminder to keep conduct transparent and dharmic.
