Mārkaṇḍeya-varṇanam
The Description of Mārkaṇḍeya
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada in the creation narrative context)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It frames creation as a deliberate, time-governed manifestation: the Supreme withdraws in yoganidrā and, at the destined moment, projects the cosmos through the creative agency symbolized by Brahmā.
By implying that the universe arises from the Lord’s will and power, it supports bhakti as surrender to the divine source behind all change—seeing all beings (moving and unmoving) as dependent on the Supreme.
The verse chiefly reflects cosmological doctrine rather than a specific Vedāṅga; indirectly it aligns with Jyotiṣa (Vedic time-reckoning) through the emphasis on creation occurring “when the time arrives.”
