Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharma in two complementary forms: the king’s duty to honor and support the learned (dvijas), and the sanctifying power of a righteous hermitage. Social order is upheld when rulers serve virtue and when sages maintain holy centers of austerity.

Dhaumya points out exemplary models and sacred destinations: he recalls the ancient fame of King Bharata as a benefactor of Brahmins and mentions the celebrated, highly meritorious hermitage of the sage Śarabhāṅga in the northern region, indicating a revered place associated with ascetic holiness.
