Duryodhana’s Śaraṇāgati and the Pāṇḍavas’ Resolve
Gandharva Encounter
ते तं घनैरिवादित्यं दृष्टवा सम्परिवारितम्
te taṃ ghanair ivādityaṃ dṛṣṭvā samparivāritam
Mereka melihatnya terkepung rapat, laksana matahari yang tertutup awan pekat.
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse uses the sun obscured by clouds to suggest that true brilliance or virtue may be temporarily hidden by adverse conditions; one should not mistake temporary concealment for permanent defeat, and should respond with patience and clear judgment.
Mārkaṇḍeya describes a scene where a particular figure is seen fully encircled, and he conveys this visually through the comparison to the sun surrounded by thick clouds.
