Grievously unethical actions (duṣkarma) lead to painful consequences after death, including impure states like naraka and degraded rebirth; the passage underscores moral accountability and the hope for eventual release through the exhaustion of karmic results.
A speaker (reported by Vaiśampāyana) describes his present condition in an impure hell after committing extreme wrongdoing, stating that he has fallen into a serpent form and is waiting for the moment when he can be freed from that state.
