Saubha-ākhyāna: Śālva’s Approach and the Fortification of Dvārakā (सौभाख्यानम्—द्वारकायाः सुरक्षाविधानम्)
वर्जयित्वा श्मशानानि देवता55यतनानि च । वल्मीकांश्रैत्यवक्षांश्व तन्निविष्टमभूदू बलम्,श्मशानभूमि, देवमन्दिर, बाँबी और चैत्यवृक्षको छोड़कर सभी स्थानोंमें उसकी सेना फैलकर ठहरी हुई थी
varjayitvā śmaśānāni devatāyatanāni ca | valmīkān śritya caityavṛkṣāṁś ca tan-niviṣṭam abhūd balam ||
Vāyu berkata: “Dengan mengecualikan tanah kremasi dan tempat suci para dewa, gundukan semut serta pohon-pohon keramat, pasukan itu menyebar dan berkemah di semua tempat lainnya.”
वायुदेव उवाच
Even when an army occupies territory, dharma requires restraint: spaces associated with the dead (śmaśāna) and spaces held sacred (temples, caitya-trees), as well as protected natural mounds like anthills, should not be violated or used for encampment.
Vāyu describes how the force spread out to camp, but deliberately left certain locations untouched—cremation grounds, deity-shrines, anthills, and sacred trees—indicating an organized encampment governed by customary reverence and taboo.
