The verse highlights the ethical wrong of forcibly expelling the righteous from their rightful place. It frames exile as a consequence of adharma (coercion and injustice), thereby sharpening the Mahābhārata’s recurring lesson: power without righteousness produces suffering and invites moral reckoning.
Dhṛṣṭadyumna recalls the Pāṇḍavas’ banishment—how they, along with Draupadī, were compelled to go to the forest. This remembrance functions as a moral indictment of the wrongs done to them and as contextual fuel for the ongoing war narrative in the Droṇa Parva.
