Dāna-Śreṣṭhatā: Abhaya, Anugraha, and the Ethics of Honoring the Worthy
evaṁ buddhiṁ samāsthāya divasānekaviṁśatim | supto 'smi yadi māṁ kaścid bodhayed iti pārthiva ||
Dengan niat demikian kukukuhkan dalam batin, wahai raja, aku berbaring tidur selama dua puluh satu hari, berpikir, “Jika ada seseorang datang membangunkanku.”
The verse highlights steadfast resolve (buddhi) and disciplined endurance: one holds firmly to an intention and accepts the passage of time without wavering, allowing circumstances (here, being awakened by another) to reveal the next step.
Chyavana addresses a king and recounts that, after forming a specific plan, he remained asleep for twenty-one days, waiting to see whether anyone would come to awaken him—suggesting a deliberate test or a purposeful act of austerity and patience.
