Mataṅga–Śakra Dialogue on Tapas, Status, and Moral Qualities
वानप्रस्थैर्गहस्थैश्व यतिभिरन्रह्मचारिभि: । विद्यावद्धि: श्रितां गड़ां पुमान् को नाम नाश्रयेत्
vānaprasthaiḥ gṛhasthaiś ca yatibhir anbrahmacāribhiḥ | vidyāvaddhiḥ śritāṃ gaṅgāṃ pumān ko nāma nāśrayet ||
Brahmacārin, grihastha, vānaprastha, para yati (pertapa) serta orang-orang berilmu pun berlindung pada Gaṅgā; manusia mana yang tidak akan mencari naungan Gaṅgā?
सिद्ध उवाच
The verse praises Gaṅgā as a universally accepted refuge: across all āśramas (student, householder, forest-dweller, renunciant) and among the learned, her sanctity is acknowledged; therefore one should not neglect sacred means of purification and dharmic support.
A Siddha (a perfected sage) speaks, using a rhetorical question to emphasize Gaṅgā’s exceptional status: since every class of disciplined life seeks her, it is natural for any person to do the same.
