FAQs

It prescribes two key antyeṣṭi actions: the son’s duty to provide the proper funerary fire, and the relatives’ udaka-sprinkling while reciting the deceased’s name and gotra.

It exemplifies the Agni Purana’s practical dharma-encyclopedia approach by codifying precise samskara procedures (funerary fire and udaka-kriya) alongside broader theology about post-death destinies such as Svarga.

Performing the funeral fire rite and udaka offering with correct identification (name and gotra) is presented as a meritorious act that supports the departed’s onward journey and favorable attainment, framed here as reaching Svarga.
