Chapter 154: विवाहः
Vivāha — Marriage
Lord Agni (traditional Agni Purana narrator) instructing the sage (commonly Vasiṣṭha in framing tradition)

Concept: Systematization of celestial divisions: consistent classificatory schemes (bhagaṇa) applied to sub-divisions (caraṇa/pada) for reliable inference.
Application: Use the mapping as a lookup rule when judging pada-based results in muhurta/compatibility/prediction workflows.
Khanda Section: Jyotisha (Nakshatra–Rashi/Charaṇa–Bhagaṇa classification; astral/astrological technical lore)

Related Themes: Agni Purana: Jyotisha khanda on nakshatra-rashi relations and muhurta rules (same section context)
It gives a Jyotiṣa rule mapping groups of nakṣatra padas (quarters) to elemental/directional types (Agni/Agneya and Vāyu/Vāyavya) and states that this mapping is used as a standing prescription for bhagaṇa-based classification.
Alongside theology and ritual, the Agni Purana preserves technical Jyotiṣa taxonomy—how lunar mansion quarters are categorized by direction/element for applied astrology—showing its compendium-style coverage of practical sciences.
By following the prescribed Jyotiṣa classification, one aligns timing and interpretation with śāstra-based order (ṛta/dharma), supporting auspicious decision-making and reducing error in rites and life-events chosen by astrological considerations.
