Rudra’s Hymn: Vision of Nārāyaṇa, the Emergence of the Ādityas, and the Mutual Boon of Hari and Hara
janmāntarair vedavidāṁ viveka- buddhir bhaven nātha tava prasādāt | tvallabdhalābhasya na mānuṣatvaṁ na devagandharvagatiḥ śivaṁ syāt || 73.31 ||
Pṛthivī (default, as speaker is not explicit in the fragment)
It reflects a common Purāṇic theme that spiritual discernment (viveka-buddhi) is cultivated over many lifetimes and is framed as arising through divine favor (prasāda), illustrating the synthesis of ethical psychology and devotional idiom in medieval Sanskrit textual culture.
No geographic location is named in this verse; the content is doctrinal and philosophical rather than topographical.
The verse prioritizes discernment and the highest welfare (śivam) over status-based goals—whether human prestige or celestial association—implying that ethical-spiritual excellence is measured by inner clarity and ultimate good rather than rank.
