The Sanctity of Gayā: Raibhya’s Encounter and Hymn to Viṣṇu
Gadādhara
dharaṇyuvāca | raibhyo'sau muniśārdūlaḥ śrutvā siddhaṃ vasuṃ tadā | svayaṃ kimakarod deva saṃśayo me mahān ayam || 7.1 ||
Dharaṇī (Pṛthivī)
It preserves a typical Purāṇic dialogue-frame where Dharaṇī (Earth) prompts the instructor figure to clarify a narrative sequence, reflecting the pedagogical style of Purāṇic compilation and transmission.
No geographic location is explicitly named in this verse; the focus is on a narrative inquiry concerning Raibhya and Vasu.
The verse foregrounds disciplined inquiry: uncertainty (saṃśaya) is presented as a legitimate prompt for seeking clarification, a recurring philosophical method in Sanskrit dialogic literature.
