evaṃvidho 'sau puruṣaḥ svaranāmā mahātapāḥ | mūrttis tasya pravṛttākhyam nivṛttākhyam śiro mahat || 53.24 ||
Varāha
It preserves a Purāṇic schema that pairs pravṛtti (worldly engagement) and nivṛtti (withdrawal) as complementary orientations, expressed here through symbolic anatomy (body/head) of a cosmic personage.
No geographic location is named in this verse; it is primarily a cosmological-philosophical description.
The verse frames human and cosmic life as involving two legitimate modes—engagement (pravṛtti) and restraint/withdrawal (nivṛtti)—suggesting an ethical balance between action in the world and disciplined renunciation.
