puruṣaṃ rūpaśastreṇa taṃ chittvā ’nyam apaśyata | tadvad hrasvaṃ sitaṃ saumyaṃ tam apy evaṃ tadā ’karot || 53.21 ||
Varāha (default dialogue framework; speaker not explicit in excerpt)
It illustrates a common Purāṇic narrative device—metamorphosis or substitution—where identity is presented as contingent on form, supporting broader didactic storytelling typical of Purāṇic compilations.
No geographic toponym appears in this verse fragment; the content is primarily narrative and descriptive rather than place-specific.
The verse does not state an explicit ethical injunction; it emphasizes the instability of outward form and the narrative consequence of manipulating appearance, which can be read as a philosophical prompt to distinguish form from essence.
