Rite of the Varāha Dvādaśī Vow and an Exemplary Narrative on Expiation for Brahmin-Slaying
durvāsā uvāca | evaṃ māghe site pakṣe dvādaśīṃ dharaṇībhṛtaḥ | varāhasya śṛṇuṣv ādyāṃ mune paramadhārmika || 41.1 ||
Durvāsā
It functions as a formal narrative transition (uvāca-frame) introducing a calendrical observance tied to Māgha-śukla-dvādaśī, a common Purāṇic method for embedding ritual practice within a mythic-ethical discourse.
No specific geographic site is named in this verse; it identifies sacred time (Māgha, bright fortnight, Dvādaśī) rather than a pilgrimage location.
The verse foregrounds attentive transmission of dharma-oriented teaching (śṛṇuṣva) and frames the forthcoming material as a disciplined, ethically relevant observance associated with Varāha as ‘Earth-bearer’ (dharaṇībhṛt).
