The Hunter’s Austerity and the Gaining of Durvāsas’ Favor
tamasthiśeṣaṃ vyādhaṃ tu kṣudhādurbalatāṃ gatam | uvāca vedādhyayanaṃ sarve vedāḥ sasaṃgrahāḥ | brahmavidyā purāṇāni pratyakṣāṇi bhavantu te || 38.29 ||
Varāha (default speaker per primary dialogue framework)
It reflects a Purāṇic pedagogical motif: the conferral of authoritative knowledge (Vedas, compendia, brahma-knowledge, and Purāṇas) as a transformative remedy, illustrating how Purāṇas position themselves alongside Vedic learning within Sanskrit intellectual history.
No geographic location is named in this verse fragment; the focus is on the recipient (a hunter) and the transmission of knowledge.
The verse foregrounds the value of learning and direct realization: it presents study (vedādhyayana) and insight (brahmavidyā becoming pratyakṣa) as constructive responses to human suffering and deprivation.
