devā ūcuḥ | vedaśāstrāṇi vijñānaṃ dehi no bhava mā ciram | yajñaṃ sa-rahasyaṃ no yadi tuṣṭo 'si naḥ prabho || 33.26 ||
Devāḥ (the gods)
It reflects a common Purāṇic pedagogical motif: divine beings request systematic knowledge (vijñāna) of Vedic disciplines and ritual theory, indicating the text’s role as an interpretive bridge between Vedic ritual culture and later Purāṇic exposition.
No geographic location is named in this verse; the content is instructional and concerns scriptural knowledge and ritual principles.
The verse foregrounds disciplined learning and responsible transmission of ritual knowledge—requesting not only performance details (yajña) but also its underlying rationale (rahasya), emphasizing informed practice over mere formalism.
