Nārada’s Account of a Former Birth and a Hymn to Nārāyaṇa
tasmān nārāyaṇaṃ dhyātvā prāpto 'smi parato nṛpa | tasmāt tvam api rājendra bhava viṣṇu-parāyaṇaḥ || 3.29 ||
Varāha (default dialogue framework)
It exemplifies a common Purāṇic didactic mode: a teacher-figure addresses a ruler, linking governance with personal discipline (dhyāna) and a soteriological goal (attainment of the “supreme” state).
No geographic location is named in this verse; it is framed as ethical-philosophical instruction rather than sacred geography.
The verse recommends contemplative practice (meditation on Nārāyaṇa) and a sustained value-orientation (becoming viṣṇu-parāyaṇa), presented as a model for a ruler’s conduct and life-goal.
