Anukramaṇikā Chapter
मथुरातीर्थमाहात्म्यं प्रादुर्भावस्तथैव च ॥ यमुनातीर्थमाहात्म्यमक्रूरस्य च तीर्थकम्
mathurātīrthamāhātmyaṃ prādurbhāvas tathaiva ca || yamunātīrthamāhātmyaṃ akrūrasya ca tīrthakam
मथुरा तीर्थ की बात है। यह कैसे बना, वो भी बताया है। यमुना तीर्थ की भी इम्पोर्टेंस है। और अक्रूर के तीर्थ की बात भी है।
Varāha
It links major North Indian sacred geography (Mathurā–Yamunā) with narrative motifs of “manifestation” (prādurbhāva), a common Purāṇic way of grounding place-importance in story and memory.
Mathurā and the Yamunā are explicitly named; Akrūra’s associated tīrtha points to a localized tradition along the Yamunā corridor referenced in broader Kṛṣṇa-cycle literature.
By foregrounding a river tīrtha, the verse implicitly elevates waterways as cultural-ecological heritage, encouraging reverent and careful human interaction with river environments.
